My Background
My name is Abubakar, is a principal electrical engineer with extensive expertise in energy regulation and Power distribution specialist in Nigeria.
I am an accomplished Electrical Engineer (Senior Member IEEE, SMIEEE) with over a decade of experience spanning regulatory oversight, power distribution operations, and advanced research in distributed energy systems. Currently serving as a Principal Electrical Engineer at Nigeria’s foremost midstream-downstream energy regulatory authority, I oversee gas facilities development projects regulatory monitoring including technical inspections, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and contribute to policy formulation aimed at transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape.
My professional journey began with research at the Institute of Energy, Cardiff University, UK, culminating in a PhD focused on optimizing distributed energy systems for grid stability and efficiency. This inspired my transition to the power distribution sector, where I managed planning and network expansion unit, field operations, network maintenance, and loss reduction strategies.
I hold an MSc in Energy Systems Engineering and a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, with a career-long commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy transition, improving regulatory enforcement mechanisms, and promoting sustainable power solutions.
